Serving Altoona, FL – The Lake County Florida Nuisance Animal Organization
Lake County, FL – Many of Altoona’s wild animals have learned to adapt and even thrive in our homes. For example some wildlife have found that attics make great places to live. Other animals find refuge under homes or porches. Invariably, these animals cause damage. Rodents, like squirrels and rats, love to chew on electrical wires once in an attic, and this causes a serious fire hazard. Raccoons can cause serious contamination in an attic with their droppings and parasites. Same goes for bat or bird colonies. We specialize in solving Altoona Florida’s wildlife problems, from snake removal to large jobs like commercial bat control, we do it all.
As we’ve mentioned, it is extremely important to take additional steps beyond simply capturing and removing critters and wildlife from your home. At the absolute minimum, we recommend allowing us to find the entry points that animals use to gain access. Our licensed wildlife technicians here at The Lake County Florida Nuisance Animal Organization are fully trained in proper techniques to find, fix and completely seal any and all entry points. We’ll also do a full exterior scan of your home to point out any areas that could result in future wildlife problems. Our technicians are able to recommend prevention strategies that will ensure there are no available entry ways for animals to take advantage of in the future.
We do not handle dog or cat problems. If you need assistance with a domestic animal, such as a dog or a cat, you need to call your local Lake county animal services for assistance. Lake County Animal Services or Humane Society: (352) 343-9688

How to Find and Remove a Dead Skunk
To clean the attic, I not only remove all of the waste by hand, I use special cleaners, including an enzyme-based cleaner that eliminates any biohazard organic waste from animals, including droppings and urine. I use the electric powered atomizer as shown in the below photo, which creates a fine mist that flows through the whole attic and gets every nook and cranny, for 100% coverage and cleanup. To protect myself against insulation fibers and animal biohazard, I wear a disposable Tyvek suit and I wear the respirator mask, as shown above. This fogging machine, also called an atomizer, sprays my cleaning solution in a fine mist that permeates the entire attic, and makes certain attic cleanup scenarios easy. In a case like this, in which the homeowner did not want total insulation replacement, the enzyme-based cleaner in the atomizer does a good job of breaking down and sanitizing the contaminated areas of the attic. If your attic has wildlife waste or animal poop, then this is one method that can kill harmful pathogens along with the odor. Homeowner's insurance will pay for attic cleanup and restoration in the case of raccoon damage, because of the potential health risks.

With the young bats well able to fly, it seems that bats are showing up everywhere! They have been found in attics and chimneys in Lake County, Florida on a regular basis.
With the abundant source of water in the area such as the Missouri and Kansas rivers and the numerous lakes, it creates a virtual bonanza of insects on the bat's menu.
Combine this food supply with plenty of homes and commercial buildings for roosting and that makes for the perfect situation if you are a bat!
What do bats look for when selecting a roosting site?
One important thing is it must be out of the weather. The inside of an attic or cave makes for some of the best locations that are out of the wind and rain. Air flow is equally important. Bats love to select areas where the air flows across their bodies keeping them cool. The inside of an attic can reach 130 degrees and bats could not live for long in this environment without the air flow.
Professional removal is the best solution to your bat pest control problem. Trying to resolve this problem by yourself often makes it worse. Bats carry rabies and should not be handled. If you should find one outside the home or building that is laying on the ground, do not pick it up! Each year people are bitten because they picked up a bat they thought was dead. This could be a sign that the bat is rabid.

Rabid Raccoon- Raccoons & Rabies
Many of us have been there-you are lying in bed at night trying to go to sleep, and you hear a thump in the attic, followed by the scamper of little feet. It can even sometimes sound like an entire herd of elephants running around in your attic. "What is that?", you wonder. Is it aliens in your attic? While it is probably not aliens in your attic, it sure sounds like it sometimes. The most likely culprit for the noises in your attic are raccoons, and they can cause extensive damage if you don't get rid of them, and fast.
Raccoons are notorious for finding their way into areas which are dark, woody, and with a lot of places to hide. Your attic can be the ideal location for raccoons to bed down, create nests, and even deliver litters of baby raccoons. They can often get in directly through damage in your roof, or they can find places in your eaves, vents, or chimney to get into the attic. Once they have made their home in your attic, they can cause extensive damage. Raccoons are mischief makers by nature, and will figure out ways to open latches, shred fabric, and urinate and defecate everywhere.
If there are too many raccoons, or you can't seem to capture them with the traps, you may want to consider contacting a professional exterminator. They will come into your home, assess the situation, and find a way to remove the animals in the most humane way possible.
Once all of the raccoons are removed from your attic, you will need to do repair and maintenance work. You will need to make sure there are no other ways for the raccoons to re-enter your home, and do regular inspections to keep your home pest-free.
